Well, well, well. Here we are again folks, talking about the new kid on the block – the 2024 Chevy Blazer. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m all for innovative designs and sporting the newest wheels on the block, but this new release? It’s a bit of a head-scratcher, I must say.
The Pricey Proposition
You’ve got to hand it to Chevy for sticking their neck out with this one, pricing the 2024 Blazer from around $36,795 for the base trim, all the way to a staggering $43,000 for the RS and Premier trims. While the sporty design is fun to look at, and the handling offers a bit of kick, the hefty price tag is a bit of a kick in the gut.
It doesn’t stop there, though. The Blazer EV edition, available in RS and SS trims, takes it to another level. Its pricing starts from a hefty $50,000 and soars all the way up to a heady $70,0001. Now, before you spit out your coffee, let’s take a look at what you get for your hard-earned dough.
What You Get (or Don’t)
Beneath the hood, the Blazer boasts two engine options: a 228-hp turbo-four and a 308-hp V6. While that’s pretty decent, the punch comes with the towing capacity ranging from 1,500 to 4,500 lbs, depending on the engine and trailering package. But let’s not sugarcoat things – we’re looking at a pretty hefty price tag here, and the noisy cabin and limited space might just leave potential buyers scratching their heads.
The Blazer EV, on the other hand, comes with new hardware and impressive tech, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SS version even flaunts an attractive interior with large screens. But, there’s a catch. Despite the bells and whistles, it lacks a front trunk and offers varying EV range.
Not Worth the Range?
The range is, in fact, one of the main bones of contention. With the base model offering an EV range up to 279 miles[5], one can’t help but feel short-changed, especially considering the price tag.
In comparison, the Rivian R1S, perfect for rugged adventures in the Pacific Northwest, boasts a 321-mile range. Not to mention the Tesla Model X with a whopping 379-mile range3, which makes the Chevy Blazer’s 279 miles seem a little underwhelming. You’d expect more bang for your buck, wouldn’t you?
The Verdict
While the 2024 Chevy Blazer offers a distinctive look and some neat features, the overpriced tag seems to leave a bitter taste in the mouth. You’re left wondering if perhaps you’re better off exploring other SUV options, like the Jeep Grand Cherokee or Kia Sportage Hybrid4, which offer similar features without breaking the bank.
Let’s face it; there are more luxurious or valuable competitors in the market, like the Honda Passport and Jeep Grand Cherokee. GM’s EV strategy includes a fleet of other vehicles, from the Blazer, Equinox, Silverado, Cadillacs, Hummers, and more, and one can’t help but think if maybe they could have held off on the Blazer’s pricing1.
To cut a long story short, the 2024 Chevy Blazer, although promising on the surface, falls short of expectations given its hefty price tag. Now, don’t shoot the messenger, but perhaps it’s time for Chevy to rethink their strategy for the Blazer. After all, good things come to those who wait.
But hey, I’m just a humble blogger. You’ve got all the information, so head on over to www.chevy.com and see for yourself. And as always, drive safe, folks!
